General description:
Essentially this is one of those "instant win" cards that require you to jump through hoops to get the effect. This is the second ever instant win card released (Exodia being the first) and yes, I have built a Deck around it. After this review, you might reconsider your opinion of this card.
Uses:
Obviously the main point of this card is to win in 4 of your opponent's turns (counting the turn you activate it). Essentially, once this Continuous Trap is activated, at the end of each of your opponent's turns, you pull a Continuous Spell card from your Deck and set it in one of your S/T zones. When you have Destiny Board and the 4 Spirit Messages, you win.
BTW, people always argue about this...it says on the cards that the messages need to be "in order." It's talking about the order you pull them from the Deck, not the way they appear on the field. Don't believe me? Look it up. Upperdeck site.
Strategies and game play:
Essentially a Destiny Board deck is one of the ultimate stall decks. Your goal is to play Destiny Board while managing to defend yourself.
Combos with other cards:
Clock Tower Prison
Since you can't defend yourself with cards that will take up Spell/Trap card zones, this is the perfect choice for defense.
Terraforming
Use it to get Clock Tower Prison more easily.
Magic Reflector
Use it to defend Clock Tower Prison. Very annoying against most foes
Good Goblin Housekeeping
Use it to draw cards, and return the useless Spirit Messages to your Deck.
Magical Mallet
Good drawing card, and it also lets you put spirit messages back in the deck.
A Cat of Ill Omen
Use it to get Destiny Board (duh).
Waboku/Threatening Roar/Thunder of Ruler
One-time use defense trap cards that won't clutter your Spell/Trap card zones.
Marshmallon/Spirit Reaper/Gellenduo
Simple defense using monsters that can't be destroyed in battle. Also very annoying to most foes that think high level players don't use these.
Ways to counteract it:
Anything that destroys Spell/Trap cards can defeat Destiny Board. Giant Trunade is also a DB killer. Royal Decree will wipe you down. The real strategy to Destiny Board is the deck it's in.
Strengths/Pros:
-Easy instant win
-opponent's will be blindsided by this card, because in today's game no one uses it
-Some argue that it is much easier to pull off than Exodia
-Supreme bragging rights if you pull off a win with this
Weaknesses/Cons:
-Easy to remove
-Takes up your Spell/Trap card zones
-The spirit messages take up your deck space and often clutter your hand
Variations:
American Versions:
Comes in Ultra Rare (LON) and common (DB2) versions. I died a little inside when this became common.
Japanese Versions:
The original message was "DEATH," not "FINAL."
Artwork and aesthetics:
This and the messages all look the same. Some ghost holding up a letter. The japanese version was way cooler.
Overall rating:
Given it's simple use but horrendous need of a high level deck to use it in, this card gets a 6 out of 10. I'll always keep my Destiny Board deck around for poops and giggles
